Studio sessions begin today

We start tracking songs this evening for the new album, at Q Division in MA.

Back to the Bowie

In what is quickly becoming a Massachusetts tradition, our friends in Worcester are hosting another David Bowie tribute show at Ralph's Diner, and have invited us to perform with them. We'll be playing a set that draws from multiple eras of David Bowie's career, including the early 70s glam of Ziggy Stardust and the proto-industrial dance rock of Scary Monsters. Since it's not Halloween, we won't be appearing in costume, though if this show is like the last one, there will be strippers in (and out of) costume.

One week until studio sessions begin

On June 3rd we begin recording our new album at Q Division, the studio where fellow Bostonians the PIXIES recorded their 1988 classic, Surfer Rosa.

Some of the songs we will be recording have been in the works for quite a while, and are staples of our live shows. We first attempted tracking these songs in early 2010, but were unable to begin our overdub sessions until later in the year, at which point we had rewritten the songs considerably and couldn't use the old tracks. So here we go again.

The rock band Spacehog was founded in New York City in 1994 although all members of the band were originally from Leeds, England. Members included Royston Langdon (bass and vocals), brother Antony Langdon (guitar and vocals), Richard Steel (guitar), and Jonny Cragg (drums).

Heavily influenced by David Bowie and Queen, Spacehog signed with Sire Records in 1994. Their debut album, Resident Alien, was released in late 1995 and went gold on the Billboard charts, selling over half a million copies. The album had a hit single and video “In the Meantime” as well as the single “Cruel to be Kind.” “In the Meantime” was also selected as the background music for the BBC’s Match of the Day football program.

Memoirs from Allston Rock City

What a night! The last time we played to a packed house, we were wearing wigs, make-up and rocking “Suffragette City.” So nice to once more have the same crowd and energy, without us having to wear hooker boots. To every face out there last night, we thank you dearly for being there. The Pill always comes through for us – Ken Powers and Michael Marotta, you rule.

Our set list:

Kidnapped
Evelyn
James Bond
Terrified

She’s so Mature

Burning Bible Diamonds is a done deal, available at our shows now, and online and in stores in July.

Additional thanks go out to Reid Calkin for helping us fight the early sound issues and get back on track, Dan Gonzales for solving our bass problem, Brian Marcou for volunteering roadie duties, Neil Swaab for his cover illustration, Shana Bethune for designing the Special Edition CDs and rushing past Allston bikers to Mr. Music five minutes before closing to pick up a mic clip.

Off to the Moontower, once again, and not for the last time.

In a few hours we head into the studio to mix the last song from our upcoming record. It's been a long, somewhat maddening process - due mainly to the fact that we tracked overdubs at home and in our practice space. When you're tracking by yourself, you never really know when you're done.

We're also working on booking shows throughout the Northeast now, and setting promotion for the record into place. Friends, don't be shy about contacting us! We want to tour in the right places, so let us know where you are, and the venues where you go to see bands... TheDailyPravda@gmail.com
